Following the announcement of its The Expanse game, Telltale has assured fans that The Wolf Among Us 2 is still happening.
While exciting news for some, the announcement also served as a reminder that Telltale had yet to share any news on The Wolf Among Us 2, which it announced with a brief teaser during The Game Awards 2019.
In the wake of this year’s show, Telltale addressed The Wolf Among Us 2’s absence in a blog post and assured fans that it would have news to share in the next issue of Game Informer. Said issue is now out and those details are already circulating online.
As shared by Shinobi062 on Twitter, The Wolf Among Us 2 will once again be set in New York, this time during winter, six months after the events of the first game.
Given the significant time skip, it remains to be seen whether the sequel will address the somewhat ambiguous conclusion to the first game or if it will carry over player choices like Telltale’s other sequels.
Telltale also says that the game will take place ‘all over New York,’ suggesting a wider range of locales compared to the first game. It adds that the script is finalised and work on the motion capture has already begun.
Lastly, it says that The Wolf Among Us 2 is using Unreal Engine, which has helped to streamline development. The first game used Telltale’s own in-house engine, Telltale Tool, although Telltale already had plans to move away from it ahead of its closure in 2018, according to Variety.
Telltale’s bankruptcy initially meant The Wolf Among Us 2 had to be cancelled, but the project was revived along with the studio when its assets were acquired by LCG Entertainment.
Much like The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us is based on a comic book series titled Fables, where fantasy characters from various fairy tales have been driven out of their home and forced to take residence in modern day New York.
The game takes place in the 1980s, 20 years before the comic books, and puts you in control of the community’s sheriff Bigby Wolf aka the Big Bad Wolf as he investigates a murder case.
While Bigby and Snow White’s actors will reprise their roles in the sequel, The Wolf Among Us 2 is being made completely from scratch. This means it won’t use any of the work that had already been done before Telltale shut down.
The Wolf Among Us 2 is in development for unspecified platforms.
