Villa fans were left ironically cheering decisions that went in their favour and were not afraid to hide their anger towards Moss.
Gerrard meanwhile had to hold himself back when asked what he thought of Moss’s performance.
The Liverpool legend refrained from openly criticising Moss, but replied: “No comment.”
He then added: “I just hope it’s looked at, that’s all I’ll say. I just hope it’s looked at.
“I’ve answered your question, I hope Jon’s performance is looked at.
“Listen, I don’t want to get into trouble and I don’t want to be sour.
“We’ve lost the game, Liverpool have scored two goals against us and we have to look at that.
“I don’t want to cover over any cracks but you asked me a question and I said I hope the referee’s performance is looked at.”
However Gerrard did suggest he would be glad to see the back of Moss, with the ref set to hang up his whistle at the end of the season.
When told Moss was retiring, Gerrard responded: “Is he? Good.”
Gerrard added: “I’ll go away in a positive place because there were huge signs of progress from my team tonight.”
