WWE superstar Samoa Joe has chopped off his ponytail and donated the hair to a charity which makes wigs for children.
The 41-year-old wrestler – who is part of the Raw commentary team after suffering an injury and then being suspended in February 2020, although his current status remains unclear – revealed his generous action over the weekend while tagging the Children With Hair Loss organisation.
Alongside a photo of his cut-off ponytail, Joe wrote: ‘It was a good run, hopefully it will find a better purpose at @cwhl_org . #cutpasslove (sic)’
Fans and fellow superstars responded to his decision, with Peyton Royce sharing two applause emojis.
Naomi joked: ‘I need it for my wig pls and thank you’.
The charity – which is based in South Rockwood, Michigan – shared the post on their own Instagram account.
They responded: ‘WOW!!! Thank you, @SamoaJoe_WWE! We’ll make sure it has *continued* purpose. (sic)’
Speaking in October, Joe – a former NXT Champion who made his name in TNA Wrestling – revealed how impressed WWE boss Vince McMahon had been with his work behind the announcer’s desk.
He said at the time: ‘I got on the commentary table – it was funny when the light shined on me, I started to hear the angels sing, I said to myself, “you know, this might be a good fit”.
‘I then put my headset on, and Vince came through and said, “You know, this feels right”. I was like, “I know!” ‘
However, he also insisted he wasn’t ‘done in the ring’, despite his work on commentary.
He told ex-TNA star Taylor Wilde on the Wilde On podcast: ‘Right now I’m enjoying commentary on Raw. It’s been a fun challenge. Obviously, I’m not done in the ring by no means.
‘I think right now I’m exploring things. Aside from that, I’m doing voice acting which is fun and very cool.
‘It’s a very enjoyable thing. I have a project coming up with Warner Brothers. I’m very fortunate and I’m very happy that I’m doing the things I’m doing right now.’
