Bradley Walsh had big boots to fill taking on Sir David Jason’s famous role in The Larkins but he’s so far impressed viewers.
The ITV programme is a reboot of its iconic series The Darling Buds of May, which starred Sir David as patriarch Pop Larkin.
The Chase host Bradley has stepped into the role for the new reboot, alongside Joanna Scanlan as Ma Larkin.
Pop is a bit of a wheeler-dealer, but one with a heart of gold who always puts his family first and is life and soul of the party; while Ma is fiercely loyal to her family and local community in the idyllic Garden of England – and will call out any snobbery or bullying she witnesses.
As the first episode aired on Sunday night, viewers flooded Twitter with their reactions to Bradley’s performance.
One weighed in: ‘Much as I loved Darling Buds of May, I’m loving #TheLarkins. Bradley Walsh is fantastic.’
‘Really enjoying #TheLarkins. I remember #DarlingBudsOfMay and this seems just as good. #BradleyWalsh has made Pa Larkin his own. Perfect cosy Sunday night telly,’ another said.
Delivering the ultimate compliment, one chimed in: ‘I’m loving this. Such a lovely Sunday evening telly programme. I’m old enough to remember the original and this does it justice and, dare I say it, is better. From one Bradders to another #thelarkins is fab.’
One viewer added: ‘Bradley Walsh is the best all-round entertainer on TV by a country mile.’
