Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Karen Hauer expressed her desire to take part with a female celebrity in the future, following the show’s introduction of same-sex couples in the past two years.
The pair, who are both gay, have spoken openly about how much of a positive impact the opportunity had on them, as well as for the LGBTQ+ community.
It came a year after boxing champion Nicola Adams featured in the show’s first-ever same-sex couple when she was partnered with Katya Jones.
Now, Karen, who has been a part of the series since 2012, says she’s keen to follow suit and dance with a woman if she gets the chance to return for 2022.
Speaking to Daily Star, she said: ‘It would be great to dance with another female this year. I’d really love that.

‘It’s a beautiful thing that the show is opening up to it now. It’s not taboo anymore. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to show same-sex dancing. It’s normal now and that’s the way it should be.’
Commenting on the previous same-sex pairings from the past two series, she said: ‘It was done so beautifully both times.’
We couldn’t agree more.

Last year, Karen was paired-up with actor Greg Wise, and although the couple was knocked out a few weeks into the show, they were still a big hit with fans.
Meanwhile, John praised how wonderful the experience of dancing with Johannes was ahead of last year’s finale.

‘The amount of people who have messaged saying their kids can grow up in a world where two men or two women can dance together is mega.
‘Older members of the LGBTQ+ community have been so grateful that they’ve paved the way for this to happen.
‘Kids can now grow without being ashamed. My friend who’s a teacher actually messaged me this morning saying that two of the kids in the playground this week were kissing, two lads, and no one batted an eyelid, it was normal!’
Katya and Nicola were the first all-female pairing to compete on the show back in 2020 but sadly had to withdraw after receiving positive Covid tests a few weeks in.
Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year to BBC One.
