Think you can create the perfect snatch game character? (Picture: BBC)
On RuPaul’s Drag Race, Snatch Game is the challenge to excel in – and often separates the potential winners from the filler queens.
As a result, there is a lot of pressure for a queen to get the impersonation game right, and yet, despite the game’s run for 12 years, contestants still find themselves getting it incredibly wrong.
As 12 new queens take on Drag Race UK, judges Alan Carr and Michelle Visage have spoken out about their secrets to a successful Snatch Game, and how inner saboteurs get the better of people under the pressure.
‘They pick a person who has one catchphrase, and then they’re stuck for the whole of snatch game,’ said Alan. ‘They’re like… [blank stare].’
In last year’s series, Baga Chipz and The Vivienne stood out among their competitors for their hilarious takes on Margaret Thatcher and Donald Trump respectively.
Playing off each other as the divisive political figures, Vivienne’s Trump took a more traditional mocking route while Baga opted to turn Thatcher into a demon-like character, giving her red eyes and fangs.

Both went down in history as two of the best impersonations to date – but Michelle understands why some find it harder than others to encapsulate a character.
‘[Drag] It’s their superhero superpower,’ Michelle said. ‘They become, they transform, they become somebody else.
‘I think that’s why Snatch Game is very difficult for a lot of them, because they’re so invested in this alter ego that they have to take that alter ego and put it into somebody else for snatch game. It’s a bit meta, but that’s what it’s all about.’
So how does this year’s queens measure up?
‘We think you’ll be very happy this series,’ Michelle teased. ‘You’ll be very, very happy with Snatch Game.’
We are so ready.
