It was announced in December 2020 that Cinderella actress Lily James will play the Baywatch icon, while The Falcon and Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan will channel the Mötley Crüe drummer in the upcoming biographical drama.
While many didn’t pay much notice to the news initially, the transformation shots of Lily and Sebastian in character had people doing a double-take, and it’s safe to say this piqued their interest.
However, PR expert Eric Schiffer tells Metro.co.uk that the dark comedy could actually work in the Baywatch star’s favour.
He said: ‘This is the best thing that’s happened to Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee in several decades because it makes them relevant.

‘It will introduce them to a whole new generation of people both millennial and Gen Z who were clueless about many of the facts.’
Eric, who is chairman of Los Angeles-based firm Reputation Management Consultants, stated: ‘This a love story of its age for those that like love stories and drama, then it will always be of interest for a niche audience.
‘[Pamela] was the hot sex symbol of that time, there was no one bigger and they were a supernova as a couple because they represented cool and modern sex appeal to the world.’
Reflecting on whether it was a story that needed to be told despite contrasting opinions, he said: ‘I think there is an audience for it. Is it relevant? Well in the time of Covid we can never say no to entertainment.’
Director Craig Gillespie said his dramatised version of the events, during which the couple’s intimate video was leaked online in 1997, aimed to expose how ‘heinous’ the situation was for those involved.
Eric later added how the shocking invasion into the couple’s private life shook the world and influenced celebrity culture.
‘When that sex tape came out, not only was it shocking and shameful for her,’ he added.
‘But it was also an insight into how a star’s brand can become more powerful despite the pain and suffering.’
The first three episodes of the biographical eight-parter will premiere on Disney Plus on Wednesday.
Lily also emphasised that the raunchy scenes were ‘essential’ in telling the story, as Disney says robust parental controls ensure its streaming platform offers a suitable viewing experience for all.
Pam & Tommy is available to stream on Disney+ from February 2.
