There’s something about Money Heist that has captivated audiences around the world. It’s slick, smart and sexy, not to mention clever enough to release its final season while the series is still on a high.
Fans will undoubtedly be disappointed to say goodbye to Money Heist, known as La Casa De Papel in Spanish, when season 5 is released on Netflix in two parts. Nonetheless, they can rest assured that it will be given the explosive, heartbreaking and hopefully triumphant ending that it deserves.
Season four of the dazzling crime drama created by Álex Pina ended with The Professor (Álvaro Morte), the mastermind of the heist at the Bank of Spain, in a perilous position, as his hideout was discovered by police inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri), who doesn’t have a merciful bone in her body.
While the other members of the gang celebrate the successful operation to help free Lisbon, aka Raquel (Itziar Ituño), from the police so that she can enter the Bank of Spain, they’re unaware that the man in charge of their operation is now in a seemingly inescapable situation.
That isn’t the only challenge that they’re up against. While the Money Heist gang have been able to hold their own against the police and rogue hostages, this season, they’re faced with the full force of the army, raising the stakes higher than they’ve ever been before.
While it is extremely satisfying to watch The Professor’s carefully calculated plans fall into place, one of the most exciting aspects of Money Heist is when the exact opposite occurs.

How will Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Rio (Miguel Herrán) and Stockholm (Esther Acebo) react when they find out that the man who always has everything figured out is in the lurch? Can they work out their next steps on their own? Or are they doomed to fail?
Season five opens with The Professor in a vulnerable state, at the whim of a woman who will go to any length to achieve her aim of thwarting the heist and watching his demise, all with an evil glint in her eye.
He has to trust that the other members of the group can take charge without his assistance… and boy does it make for a tantalisingly gripping watch.
The first two episodes of Money Heist season five that we were given access to watch in advance pack a huge punch, with action-packed sequences that will have viewers on the edge of their seats.

While the decision to open with a massive show of action may seem premature to some, considering there are 10 episodes for the fifth season, it does leave you wondering – if this is how they’re going to open the final season of the show, how in the hell are they planning on bringing it to a close?
Money Heist has been one of the most exciting series to watch in recent years. In a TV landscape saturated with crime dramas, it’s felt completely fresh, a rare find when it seems as though there’s an unlimited supply of shows to watch.
The Netflix series will be sorely missed when it concludes. However, there is still plenty of excitement left in store in its last 10 episodes.
From the little taste of the final outing that we’ve seen, Money Heist has no intention of going quietly. Just like the gang, this acclaimed drama is going to keep up the good fight until its final breath.
Verdict on Money Heist season 5
Money Heist has maintained a stellar quality of entertainment since its first season, so it should come as no surprise that its final season is no different.
There is a lot to unpack in the first couple of episodes, but if this start is any indication as to how the rest of the season is going to pan out, fans are going to be utterly absorbed from the get-go.
The ending of Money Heist could honestly go in any direction, with several variables – old and new – influencing whether the gang’s journey will end in further misery or celebration.
However, this show always comes with a guarantee of excitement and heartache in equal measure, so get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions to sweep you off your feet.
Money Heist season 5 volume 1 launches on Netflix on Friday September 3.
