RICHARD Madeley clashed with Richard Arnold on Good Morning Britain as they got into a heated discussion over his I’m a Celeb fee.
During the last series of the ITV reality show Richard, 65, was forced to pull out after just three days due to injury – but still received his reported £750k fee in full.
Richard was teased about his short stint in the I’m a Celeb castle
On Wednesday morning’s edition of GMB, Richard, his co-host Susanna Reid and showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold were discussing celebrity engagements.
The former This Morning presenter remarked that he’d missed his and wife Judy Finnigan’s 35th wedding anniversary thanks to being in the I’m a Celeb castle.
He told Richard, 52: “It was our 35th wedding anniversary when I was in the castle.
“I left her with an emerald ring, so there!”
When Susanna asked how much the ring was, Madeley said: “£750,000.”
As Susanna looked visibly shocked, laughing, he added: “Of course not.”
But Susanna quickly added: “It was almost all of your fee, wasn’t it?”
Richard Arnold quipped: “And well earned it was over a couple of days.”
Madeley hit back: “Yeah I heard you going on about that.” To which Richard replied: “I might have had to mention it, it is our job to report the news.”
Piers Morgan’s replacement said: “I thought we were friends.” But Richard muttered: “No.”
The presenter later released a statement saying: “Hello all! Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE.
“I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
“By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.
“Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority.
“I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue…even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle…
“Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life.”
Richard Arnold couldn’t resist a cheeky dig
