WHEN it comes to dating show formats, Channel 4 and ITV clearly have a type.
The rival broadcasters will go head-to-head after accidentally both launching match-making programmes that are set to air this year.

I can reveal Channel 4 is readying a new as-yet-unnamed show which will feature a single man choosing between ten female suitors. But as you would expect, there is a secret twist.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because ITV2 is teeing up a show called Ready To Mingle, in which a single girl will whittle down a group of a dozen men.
However, some of the alleged bachelors are already in a relationship and hoping to be picked so they can take away the cash prize awarded to her chosen fella.
Ready To Mingle is set to air in the autumn and will be hosted by the sharp-tongued comedian Katherine Ryan.
A TV insider said: “This is a bit awkward for the two rivals.
“Channel 4’s new show is going to be closely compared to Ready To Mingle and only one is going to win out. They should be commended for trying to find exciting new spins on the dating show format.
“It’s just a shame it’s the same one.”

ITV2 is packing its schedule with dating shows in the coming months, starting with the long-awaited return of ratings juggernaut Love Island this summer.
The contest, hosted by Laura Whitmore, has been off air since its first winter edition wrapped in February 2020 after the pandemic scuppered plans to film abroad.
And ITV2 is also bringing back The Cabins, which stuffs singletons into a rural retreat for 24 hours, next year.
Channel 4, meanwhile, enjoyed on-demand success with Married At First Sight: Australia and a teenagers’ spin-off of First Dates, both of which aired on E4 earlier this year.
But the broadcaster might have pushed too far with Strangers Making Babies, in which single women hunted for a man to raise a child with.
Little more than 300,000 viewers tuned in to the four-part series when it kicked off last month.
Only time will tell if these two new dating shows become success stories . . . or if they are swiftly dumped.
YOU’VE got to feel for Jack Whitehall as he finds himself on an athletics track alongside four famous sportsmen.
The comic joined his A League Of Their Own co-stars Jamie Redknapp, the former footballer, and ex-cricketer Freddie Flintoff as they completed their road trip for Sky One and Now.

During the journey from Loch Ness to London, they dabbled in Highland Games, went bowling and fished with celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.
The finale, which airs on Thursday night at 9pm, sees them at the London Stadium’s Community Track with footballer turned pundit Micah Richards and Olympic race walker Tom Bosworth, who taught them his unusual sport.
It’s smart thinking by Jack to pack a chipolata into his skintight bottoms in case he gets hungry during the race.
THE late Big Brother star Nikki Grahame was remembered by her former housemates on what would have been her 39th birthday yesterday.
Co-star Imogen Thomas wrote on Instagram: “I feel blessed to have had you as a friend.”
Nikki lost her long battle with anorexia earlier this month.
EX-HOLLYOAKS beauty Gemma Merna, who played Carmel McQueen in the C4 soap, says she wishes her late character’s storyline on facial disfigurement got better treatment from producers.
Back in 2012, beautician Carmel was left with horrific injuries to her face after an accident on a sunbed.

But speaking on the Soap From The Box podcast, Gemma says the show’s writers “should have gone deeper into the storyline”.
She said: “It was based on the model who had acid thrown in her face [TV presenter Katie Piper].
“For me as an actor it would have been amazing to go deeper into the storyline and the mental health side of it.”
Gemma, who left the soap in 2014, also revealed she’d love to go on Strictly Come Dancing, but added: “I think my husband is one of those people who’d be in the audience just eyeballing the guy!”
STRICTLY star Kevin Clifton will take to the stage again in 2022, having stepped away from the BBC show last year.
The pro dancer will take the role of The Artilleryman in a touring production of musical The War Of The Worlds alongside Steps singer Claire Richards as Beth.
STRICTLY pro Aljaz Skorjanec is at odds with show bosses after calling for Nicola Adams to be given a second shot.
The Olympian boxer had to withdraw from last year’s series just two weeks in when her partner Katya Jones tested positive for Covid.
Execs ruled Nicola would never be able to return to Strictly as she had an “unfair advantage” but Aljaz – who partnered with DJ Clara Amfo – said: “I would have loved to see Nicola back.
“It was heartbreaking. To see Nicola and Katya together was a beautiful thing.”
Aljaz also revealed he is looking forward to returning to the show after finding a treatment for the psoriasis that affected his performance.
The ballroom champ, who now uses Medovie products for his skin condition, said: “I had to change the way I dance because of confidence issues.”
FOR one night only, Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills and his co-presenter Chris Stark will have the job of describing the nude bodies of contestants on risque dating show Naked Attraction.
The pair are providing the audio description service for the programme’s blind and visually impaired viewers.
The cheeky duo said: “It’s been a lifelong dream to say lines like ‘a smorgasbord of front bottoms’ and ‘a plethora of peckers’.”
Airing on Tuesday at 10pm on Channel 4, the episode features Naked Attraction’s oldest ever picker in the form of 75-year-old naturist Ian, from North Yorkshire, as well as 30-year-old waitress Kerry from Aberdeen.
