It’s all been happening this year (Picture: ITV/BBC/Fox/Metro.co.uk)
This year has felt particularly memorable on the TV front, but here are some of our picks for the moments that left us in hysterics, or just purely speechless.
Everyone needs a bit of laughter as the year draws to a close, and it’s been those memorable moments on-screen that have united us all together in the more rubbish parts of 2021.
Whether we’ve been locked down or attempted to get over losing the Euros final, our TV sets have always been on-hand to help cheer us up.
From James Newman taking his epic Eurovision loss in his stride, or Alison Hammond’s incredible laugh on This Morning, there have been countless WTF moments that left us in stitches throughout the last 12 months.
We look back at some of the most unforgettable bits of television from the year, which have become hall of famers in their own right.
Mr Blobby causing chaos at the BBC
An absolute blast from the past came to the forefront in a late addition in the form of Mr Blobby… it’s almost like he knew we were writing this list.
The 90s children’s TV legend was interviewed on the BBC News channel by Christian Fraser earlier this month, which predictably descended into chaos, involving mince pies and a poor security guard.
Stath fighting with his nemesis
One of the best comedy fight scenes in years, was lettings agent Stath (Jamie Demetriou) fighting with his arch nemesis Gregory (Charlie Cooper) from rival firm Live Love Lets, full of kicks, tumbles and punches flying everywhere.
All we know is Charlie and Jamie absolutely need to come together more often.
James Newman’s legendary reaction to scoring nil points at Eurovision
After James Newman’s Eurovision efforts saw him plonked at the bottom of the leaderboard, instead of stropping and sulking off into a corner, the star took it in his stride and gave Brits the reaction they really deserved.
James reacted like a superstar after the results came in by swigging his beer and having a dance as the crowd inside the Rotterdam Ahoy Arena cheered him on.
Owain Wynn Evans playing the BBC News theme during a 24 hour drumathon
Owain took it upon himself to drum for 24 hours non-stop for Children In Need and even treated fans to a rendition of the famous BBC News theme again.
The drumming superstar raised over £2 million for the charity event, what a legend!
Ant and Dec ripping apart Boris Johnson
Our favourite Geordie duo giving Prime Minister Boris Johnson a shout out every evening become a staple of 2021’s I’m A Celebrity, in response to allegations of a party in Downing Street last December.
At the end of the series, the pair gave one final nod to the PM, by predicting he’d have a place in the camp next year with a custom made t-shirt.
The Masked Singer US unveiling… Kermit The Frog?
The Masked Singer US left viewers even more speechless than usual when Kermit The Frog was unveiled as the culprit behind Snail in the first episode of season five, we’re still not sure this actually happened.
Bag of s*** from This Morning
Of course, as with all live TV, there’s always a risk of things going a little bit wrong but This Morning is a very reliable source of bizarre telly moments.
One of our favourites has to be when one TV caller Linda got so excited after scooping £3,000 in Spin To Win, she couldn’t help but drop a couple of swear words live on the programme.
Carol Kirkwood dragged to the ground by a guide dog
Carol was accompanied by an adorable guide dog Flash, who seemed determined to take the BBC Weather presenter away with her, by dragging her onto the ground.
‘We’ve got a Kirkwood down,’ Dan told viewers, luckily she was absolutely fine and carried on as normal.
Nikita Kuzman stripping on Strictly out of nowhere
When Tilly Ramsay and partner Nikita Kuzman landed in the dance-off against CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, they seemed to already know it signalled the end of their Strictly journey.
Rather than dwelling on the difficult reality of being in the bottom two yet again, Nikita gave his absolute all and delighted viewers by whipping off his shirt midway through their sassy Samba.
Alan Carr standing in for Adele after a very emotional reunion
Alan Carr showed just how much of a great pal he was to bestie Adele when he stepped in for her after a very emotional reunion with her old school teacher.
He was tasked with singing Make You Feel My Love, and while he didn’t quite have the vocal abilities of Adele, he still put in a great shift.
And Emma Thompson’s sensational dancing
Watching Emma Thompson let loose at an Adele concert spoke to us all last month.
Stood next to her husband Greg Wise, she got well into the groove and couldn’t resist showing off some of her brilliant moves to the nation.
When the first contestant literally got dumped on The Love Trap
Bachelor David Birtwistle was hoping to find love on the E4 show, but there were a few twists and turns in store he was definitely not told about beforehand.
A particularly brutal moment from the first episode went viral, after contestant J’Harie was literally dumped via a trap door beneath her, leading it to be dubbed The Squid Game of dating shows.
Bimini Bon Boulash’s Katie Price on Snatch Game
In the year we had not one – but two – series’ of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, it was hard to whittle down the moments which caught our attention the most.
But after finally getting the campest Katie Price Snatch Game we could have ever dreamed of from Bimini, which even got approval from Pricey itself.
‘The eyes are the nipples of the face.’ Iconic.
River Medway paying homage to her hometown and no one had a clue what was going on
River Medway gave one of the most brilliant hometown looks of Drag Race UK herstory, when she came out inspired by a statue of Thomas Waghorn in Chatham, Medway.
What really made the runway look complete was her continuous pointing, and a baffled Ru absolutely lost it.
Millie Court showing off her keyboard skills on Love Island
When Love Island asked Millie to demonstrate her talents on Love Island, she certainly delivered.
Fellow contestant Jake even said it almost gave him ‘a little tear in his eye’ as he complimented her A* performance.
It even inspired the best Twitter trend of the year, Millie playing the piano just about everywhere:
Barry Humphries congratulating Dermot O’Leary for coming out as gay…
This one deserves a spot mainly due to Alison Hammond’s infectious laugh, but also due to Dermot O’Leary showing how to handle a live TV blunder like a pro.
When legendary comedian Barry Humphries made a cheeky joke live on-air, praising Dermot for his ‘courage’ at coming out on the show, the host realised the mix-up with fellow This Morning star Phil, reducing Alison to hysterics.
