Il Divo has announced a virtual ‘celebration of life’ event will take place today in memory of late member Carlos Marín.
Hours later, an announcement was made on Il Divo’s Instagram account about a memorial service that will take place on Tuesday, allowing fans around the world to pay their respects via the live-stream which begins at 5pm in the UK.
Alongside a photo of Marín, the post read: ‘Join us for a virtual celebration of life on Tuesday 28th December. 9am PST / 12pm EST / 6pm CET.’
A link to the YouTube stream was also included.
Fans were pleased with the news, as one commented: ‘Will be there. Still in shock. Will love you all forever xxxx🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️.’
Another said: ‘I am still heartbroken! Being able to see u two years ago was a dream come true and I still watch your videos. Carlos was so special 😢may his beautiful soul rest in peace.’
Marín’s loved ones were pictured arriving for his funeral, including the singer’s ex-wife Geraldine Larrosa and her family, who were seen hugging loved ones before the private memorial began.
Geraldine was accompanied by her daughter Scarlett, nine, who was Carlos’ goddaughter, and her new partner. The public wake was organised by Marín’s family so as many fans as possible could bid farewell to him.
Marín was due to be cremated following a mass and his ashes deposited at Our Lady of Almudena Cemetery, the largest in Madrid and one of the largest in western Europe, alongside those of his father in accordance with his last wishes.

News of Marín’s death was announced by his surviving Il Divo bandmates, Urs Bühler, David Miller, and Sébastien Izambard, who wrote in an Instagram post: ‘It is with heavy hearts that we are letting you know that our friend and partner, Carlos Marín, has passed away.
‘He will be missed by his friends, family and fans. There wiIl never be another voice or spirit like Carlos.’
They concluded: ‘For 17 years the four of us have been on this incredible journey of Il Divo together, and we will miss our dear friend.
‘We hope and pray that his beautiful soul will rest in peace. With Love — David, Sebastien and Urs.’
His sister Rosa later confirmed that he ‘died because he was infected with the Delta variant of Covid’.
