WWE legend and Royal Rumble creator Pat Patterson has died on the age of 79.
The demise of the Corridor of Famer and pioneer – who was the primary ever Intercontinental Champion and is credited with inventing the Royal Rumble match – as we speak had the wrestling world mourning.
‘WWE is saddened to be taught that Pat Patterson has handed away on the age of 79,’ the corporate mentioned in an announcement. ‘WWE extends its condolences to Patterson’s household and associates.’
In addition to being the primary individual to seize the IC Title in 1979, the legendary performer – who thought-about himself to be wrestling’s ‘first homosexual celebrity’ – was important behind the scenes throughout a profession spanning six a long time.

Levesque’s spouse Stephanie McMahon added: ‘I’m deeply grateful to have grown up with WWE Corridor of Famer, the first-ever Intercontinental Champion, the daddy of the #RoyalRumble and the primary overtly homosexual wrestler of his era.
‘Thanks for educating me how you can not take all of it so critically. Abooze. (sic)’
Her brother Shane commented: ‘I can’t categorical how crushed I really feel proper now with the lack of Pat Patterson. A real member of my household, mentor and pricey pal. I like you Pat. God pace.’
Patterson moved backstage after retiring from the announcer sales space in 1984, and 4 years later he got here up with an idea that modified wrestling eternally.
In his ebook Accepted: How the First Homosexual Celebrity Modified WWE, he wrote: ‘The primary Royal Rumble was on January 24, 1988, in Hamilton, Ontario.
