A mother abandoned her six year-old son to please her boyfriend, then dragged the boy to death when he tried to get back into her car, a court heard. Brittany Gosney, 29, tried to dump her son James Hutchinson at Rush Run Wildlife Area near Middletown, Ohio, last week.
But James chased after his mother’s car as she drove off, and got trapped as Gosney drove away, it is claimed. He was dragged behind the vehicle and died of a head injury, with Gosney and lover James Hamilton, 42, then accused of dumping James’s corpse in the Ohio river days later. His remains have yet to be found.
Middletown Police Chief David Burk said Monday that Gosney appeared unrepentant about her son’s killing. He explained: ‘The mother is not showing much remorse at this time. She’s not really saying what the motive was.’
But police believe Gosney planned to dump James and her other two children in the wildlife area. A report seen by WHIO said: ‘Brittany stated she had planned to get her kids out of the vehicle and leave them behind as Hamilton had been pressuring her to get rid of the kids.’

The report added that Gosney drove off ‘at a high rate of speed, dragging the child for a distance’ after James tried to chase after her.
Gosney’s other children, who are both aged six or seven, were found safe when she was arrested, and have been taken into protective custody.
James was reported missing by the pair on Sunday morning, with Gosney and Hamilton telling police the six year-old had wandered off overnight while wearing his Batman-printed pajamas.
That story is said to have fallen apart during subsequent police questioning, which reportedly exposed Gosney’s murder of her son after she admitted dragging him to his death.

She is said to have admitted driving off without James, then returning 30 to 40 minutes later to find her son dead in the middle of the parking lot.
Gosney allegedly picked up James’s body and took him home, put him in his bedroom – then drove him to the banks of the Ohio River and threw his remains into the water.
Gosney has a fourth child who was taken into foster care and adopted before James’s birth. She is charged with murder and abuse of a corpse, and was ordered held on $1million bail ahead of her next court appearance on March 8.
