The former US leader used to enjoy implying to visitors that the button had nuclear capabilities – and would burst out laughing when a butler then brought in a Diet Coke, according to a White House insider.
However, the device wasn’t visible when the media was invited to the Oval Office to watch President Biden sign a stack of executive orders this week.
Instead, pictures show two phones, a coffee cup, and a set of pens on the table.
Political commentator Tom Newton Dunn alerted the world to the absence of the call button by tweeting: ‘President Biden has removed the Diet Coke button. When @ShippersUnbound and I interviewed Donald Trump in 2019, we became fascinated by what the little red button did.
‘Eventually Trump pressed it, and a butler swiftly brought in a Diet Coke on a silver platter. It’s gone now.’
Trump drank up to 12 cans of Diet Coke a day during his time as commander-in-chief, according to reports.
Ex-White House aide Chris Sims wrote in his 2019 book Team of Viper: ’Out of nowhere, he’d suddenly press the button.

‘Not sure what to do, guests would look at one another with raised eyebrows.’
Trump told a Financial Times reporter: ‘Everyone does get a little nervous when I press that button.’
Mr Dunn’s big reveal spurred a flurry of memes and amusing commentary on social media.
A Twitter user named Robert Evans joked: ‘This is not the change we voted for.
’If you elect me president in 2024, there will be a Diet Coke button in every home, and butler’s will show up every hour on the hour to force Diet Cokes into your hand whether you want one or not. I will drown this nation in aspartame.’
Someone named Will added: ‘Biden getting rid of the Diet Coke button in the oval office shows that he has zero interest in “reaching out” or “healing division”.’
Another person said: ‘Biden has removed the diet coke button. All of us: there was a diet coke button……………?’
It’s not the only change Biden has made in the Oval Office, with the new President recently removing a bust of Winston Churchill.
Downing Street has denied any bad feeling over Biden’s decision. A spokesperson said: ‘The Oval Office is the President’s private office, and it’s up to the President to decorate it as he wishes.
‘We’re in no doubt of the importance President Biden places on the UK-US relationship. And the Prime Minister looks forward to having that close relationship with him.’
