A father who was seriously injured after a wrong-way crash that killed his wife, their four children and two others, has died days after the rest of his family.
Thomas Dobosz, 32, succumbed to his injuries from the crash at Loyola Medical Center in Illinois on Wednesday morning, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
‘We come with a heavy heart today with an update on Tom. Tom has gained his angel wings and is now with his amazing wife Lauren and precious children,’ stated an update on Wednesday on a GoFundMe page for him and his family.
‘We ask that you keep this family in your prayers. All proceeds are going to the family.’
Thomas was airlifted after the crash on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway close to Riley around 2am on Sunday. The five other people in the van – his wife Lauren Dobosz, 31, their four kids and a fifth child who was their friend – all died at the scene.
Jennifer Fernandez, 22, who drove her Acura TSX the wrong way on the highway and crashed into the van, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
The children who died ranged in age from five to 13 years old. They were siblings Ella, Lucas, Nicholas and Emma, and Emma’s friend Kat, according to the GoFundMe page.
Lauren was a cheer coach for the Oriole Park Falcons, a junior league football team in the Northwest Side of Chicago. The entire family was very involved in the cheer community.
The GoFundMe page had raised more than $97,000 as of Wednesday night.
‘Rest In Peace to this beautiful family and Kat all taken far too soon,’ an individual wrote on the page. ‘I hope you are all reunited in heaven and together you will be for the rest of eternity. You will all be deeply missed.’
