Two teenage girls have been accused of killing an Uber Eats driver when they tried to steal his car. The girls, aged 13 and 15, have been charged with the murder of father-of-thee Mohammad Anwar, 66, who died during the alleged car-jacking in Washington DC last week.
Pakistani immigrant, Anwar, died on Tuesday while making a food delivery after the two teenagers allegedly tried to car-jack his vehicle, drove off while he was still clinging on to it and then crashed into a road-side barrier.
Shocking footage of the alleged incident, captured by a bystander, shows how grand-father-of-four Anwar attempts to wrestle for control of his car before one of the two suspects in the vehicle drives off at a high speed.
The car can then be seen smashing into metal railings with Anwar still hanging on before flipping onto its side as it crashes to a halt.
The footage then shows the two girls climbing out of the car and then being detained by two national guardsmen who happened to be in the area at the time. A motionless figure can also be seen lying face down on the sidewalk.
Anwar died in hospital following the incident after suffering several broken bones and severe head trauma, according to authorities.
Police later said the suspects had used a taser on the Uber Eats worker during the car-jacking, and in the bystander video he can be heard saying ‘They’re thieves, this is my car’.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the suspected carjackers are a 13-year-old girl from southeast DC and a 15-year-old girl from Fort Washington, Maryland. Neither of the girls has been named because of their age.
They have been charged with felony murder and armed carjacking.
According to his family, Anwar immigrated to the US from Pakistan in 2014, reports WUSA9.

In a statement, his family said: ‘The family is devastated by this senseless crime.
‘Mohammad Anwar was a father, a grandfather, a husband, a brother, and uncle beloved by many here in the United States and in Pakistan, his birth country.’
The teens made their initial court appearance on Wednesday and will next appear before a judge on March 31.
Mr Anwar’s niece has launched a GoFundMe to help pay for a traditional Islamic funeral for her uncle.
As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $720,000.
