A three year-old girl sobbed ‘Mommy, I’m ugly,’ after having her cheek torn open by a ‘service’ pit bull at a restaurant. ‘ Ronin Waldroup’s heartbroken mother Cleveratta Gordon-Waldroup found the toddler trying to cover her scars with make-up after Sunday’s mauling at a restaurant in Spring, Texas.
Cleveratta said: ‘My husband and I walked in our bedroom, and she has my makeup brushes, trying to put makeup on her face. I asked her, “What is wrong? Why are you doing that?” For a 3-year-old to turn to me and say, “Mommy, I’m ugly,” it’s earth-shattering.’
The bloodthirsty pit bull was wearing a ‘service animal’ vest. It is unclear if the dog was a genuine service animal, but Texan laws aimed at protecting Americans with disabilities forbid businesses from turning away service animals.
Family friend Kimberly Parker, who witnessed the dog attack said afterwards: ‘It had a hold of her face, shook her. The lady pulled on the leash, the dog released her and she just dropped like a rag doll.’
Shockingly, the dog’s owner immediately fled the scene – and even blamed Ronin for the mauling after being confronted by the youngster’s dad James Waldroup. James told Fox19: ‘She yells at me, ‘It was your daughter’s fault
Recalling his confrontation with the pit bull’s owner, James told KTRK: ‘(I said)There was an accident. “You cannot leave. My daughter is bleeding in a restroom and you’re running down the road.”
‘This gentlemen comes up beside me and I realize he is about to get in the car with this lady and I yell at him, “Are you truly going to get in this car and drive this lady away knowing there’s an accident?”‘
Harris County Sheriff’s Office are now investigating.
They have identified the pit bull’s owner, and have scheduled a meeting with the unidentified woman, but have yet to say what action she may face.
Despite the severity of Ronin’s wounds, doctors do not expect her to suffer serious scarring, but have told the toddler’s parents to consult with a plastic surgeon.
