Donald Trump is in danger of being removed from office as house Democrats formally begin an impeachment process against him for the second time.
The single impeachment article was introduced to the house at 11am EST (4pm UK) and marks the first step in the Democrats’ move to unseat the President.
Led by house speaker Nancy Pelosi, they are charging him with ‘incitement of insurrection’ for his role in last week’s riots at the US Capitol.
It comes as Republicans blocked a bill aimed at pushing President Trump out of office through the 25th Amendment. Hoyer tried to pass the resolution this afternoon through unanimous consent but it was rejected by West Virginia Republican Alex Mooney.
This paves the way for Democrats to force a full house vote on impeaching Trump later this week.

The article of impeachment focuses to Trump’s repeated false claims that he won the election and his speech to the crowd on January 6 before pro-Trump rioters breached the Capitol.
It also cites Trump’s call with the Georgia Republican secretary of state where the President urged him to “find” enough votes for Trump to win the state.
The impeachment reads: ‘In all this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government.
‘He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government.
‘He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.’
Introducing the impeachment resolution is Democrats’ first step toward holding an impeachment vote, expected early this week, to make Trump the first president in history to be impeached for a second time.

The impeachment resolution was introduced by Democrats David Cicilline of Rhode Island, Raskin and Ted Lieu of California and now has now has more than 200 co-sponsors, nearly all of the Democratic caucus, according to Cicilline.
Democrats are expected to press ahead with the impeachment process tomorrow by bringing the resolution for a full floor vote on Tuesday.
