An army veteran with a semi-automatic rifle and hundreds of bullets was arrested outside vice-president Kamala Harris’ house yesterday, according to police.
Paul Murray, 31, was detained by the US secret service Wednesday lunchtime in Washington DC after authorities were tipped off about a ‘suspicious person’ outside the US Naval Observatory, the official residence of 56-year-old Kamala Harris.
Murray, from San Antonio, Texas, is said to have experienced ‘paranoid delusions of people in the military and government wanting to harm him’, according to an intelligence bulletin from Texas warning authorities about the suspect.
He’s now facing weapons and ammunition charges after police found him to be in possession of an ‘AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, 113 rounds of unregistered ammunition, and five 30 round magazines’ at the time of his arrest, reports CNN.

A spokesperson for Washington’s Metropolitan Police said officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of Massachusetts Avenue, NW, at approximately 12:12pm ‘in reference to a suspicious person based on an intelligence bulletin that originated from Texas’.
The intelligence bulletin was issued to various agencies in Washington DC earlier in the day on Wednesday and warned authorities to ‘be on the lookout’ for Murray.
It said he texted mother hours before his arrested saying he was ‘in Washington DC and was going to take care of his problem’. The alert also said Murray was discharged from the army due to schizophrenia.
According to police, Murray has been charged with several counts, including carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of a business, possession of unregistered ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
