Boris Johnson will deliver his Christmas message on December 24, 2021
When is Boris Johnson’s Christmas speech?
Mr Johnson‘s Christmas speech will take place on Friday, December 24, 2021.
It will be the third time he has addressed the nation on Christmas Eve as the Prime Minister.
He will likely to deliver the Christmas message from inside his Downing Street flat, as he did in the past two years.
Mr Johnson sent a Christmas message to British Armed Forces on Thursday, thanking them for “keeping the peace with courage, dedication and professionalism” in the past year.
He said: “There will be plenty of challenges ahead and the world will not stop being a dangerous place.
“But you have shown yet again that you are equal to any trial or crisis and most magnificently and most importantly of all, you have filled our hearts with pride.
“So thank you and merry Christmas.”
What will Boris Johnson say?
This year’s Christmas address will inevitably feature the continuing impact of coronavirus, with the Omicron variant sweeping across the nation.
Despite giving a green light to celebrate Christmas this yea, Mr Johnson said tougher restrictions may be needed to be brought in after Christmas Day.
Last year, the PM introduced a stricter “Tier 4” for huge parts of the country just a few days before Christmas, where people were only allowed to celebrate with members of their own household and support bubbles.
Similar to the current situation with Omicron, it was due to the Delta variant in 2020.
He said in the speech last year: “We have had to confront the reality of the new strain of Covid, the speed with which it spreads. And I bet you agree that we had no choice but to take action.
“We know that we are going to succeed in beating coronavirus and these privations we are going through are temporary.”
He also emphasised on worldwide efforts on the coronavirus vaccine at the time, calling it “a star in the sky that is glowing brighter and brighter” and he is likely to encourage people to get their booster jabs during the speech this year.
