CAPTAIN Tom Moore, the heroic 100-year-old World War II veteran who raised £33million for the NHS, has died in hospital.
The fundraising champ passed away while being treated in hospital after developing breathing difficulties.

Captain Tom Moore died from Covid, as he was admitted to hospital with the disease after receiving treatment for pneumonia for several weeks.

Captain Tom Moore was admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday, January 31, 2021, as he needed additional help with his breathing, his daughter said.
Hannah Ingram-Moore explained that over the past few weeks her dad had been treated for pneumonia and that he had tested positive for coronavirus during the week.
Because of the medication the NHS hero was taking for his pneumonia, he unfortunately couldn’t have the Covid vaccine.
In a further update on February 1, it was reported that despite his breathing problems, he smiled in hospital after Boris Johnson called his family to wish him well as he battled coronavirus.
Also on Monday, February 1, Bedford Hospital said that Captain Sir Tom had been joined by members of his family.

What did Captain Tom Moore do for the NHS?
During the first UK Covid lockdown from March 23, 2020, a determined Captain Tom set out to raise money for his beloved NHS.
He began raising funds to thank NHS staff who helped him with treatment for cancer and a broken hip.
Capt Tom vowed to do his best, “for the sake of the nurses and the NHS we have, because they are doing such a magnificent job”.
The war veteran’s aim was to walk 100 laps of the 25-metre (82ft) loop in his garden with the aid of a walking frame in Marston Moretaine, in 10-lap chunks.
He achieved his feat on the morning of April 16.The NHS champ then vowed to keep on walking while people were still donating.
As a result, Captain Tom went on to raise 32,796,355 for NHS charities – and won admirers around the globe.
Capt Tom’s daughter Hannah called her father a “beacon of hope in dark times”.

In fact, the war veteran broke two Guinness World Records in 2020.
Captain Tom was awarded the first accolade for being the oldest person to have ever had a UK No1 single.
The second world record was awarded to him for his fundraising efforts, with him being honoured for single-handedly raising the most money by walking.
The former soldier, lauded as a “one man fundraising machine,” by Prince William, landed the UK’s No1 single with his cover of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
He recorded the side with Michael Ball and the NHS Care Choir to help raise cash for the NHS.
In acknowledgement of his inspirational efforts, he was knighted by the Queen in a unique open-air ceremony at Windsor Castle in summer 2020.
