But drunk Jessica later flew into a rage when her boyfriend was asked to leave the boozy family gathering at her mum’s home in Newport, Wales.
Mum-of-two Jessica punched and kicked Michelle while she lay helplessly on the kitchen floor.
The grandmother was left scarred for life when Jessica smashed a bottle, sending shards of glass flying into her face.
The mum needed stitches for the two-inch “V-shaped laceration to her cheek”, Cardiff Crown Court.
Prosecutor Marian Lewis said: “[Jessica] arranged an engagement party for her mother at her mother’s home and there were members of the family and others present.
“It’s clear that a large amount of alcohol was consumed by various people at that party and at around 8.10pm that evening there was some trouble between the complainant and the defendant’s partner who was asked to leave.
“She became involved in an argument with her mother in the kitchen as a result of which the defendant pushed her mother against a cupboard and her mother fell to the floor.
“There was punching and kicking of her mother’s body whilst she was on the floor.”
The court heard Jessica left her mum’s home, while shaken Michelle escaped into the living room.
But Jessica then returned and threw two bottles at the window while yelling: “I wish I did a better job the first time”.
The court heard Michelle was left with “permanent scarring” and a loss of sensation in her face.
Jessica pleaded guilty to wounding her mum.
Judge Niclas Parry handed Hannon an eight month sentence suspended for 12 months.
He said: “The least said the better Miss Hannon, but this was an almost inevitable incident when volatile people go on an all-day bender which is undoubtedly what this party was.”
Hannon was also ordered to complete a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and made the subject of a 90-day alcohol abstinence order.
She was given a three year restraining order banning her from contacting her mum.
