When Rachael Havenhand moved into a three-bedroom rental in Todwick, Sheffield, six years ago, the house was your classic letting – all beige and bland.
While for the first two years Rachael, 29, played it safe and put up with the drab interiors, she then decided it was time to make a change.
Since then, she and her two daughters, Gabriella, nine, and Florence, six, have spent time and money transforming their home into a gloriously colourful paradise.
And yes, she’s still renting, so Rachael will just need to return the house back to its plain state before she moves out.
Otherwise, her landlord has let her go all out.
Rachael started to bring colour into the house with her furniture, first, but quickly realised she wanted more.

She tore down the grey and beige wallpaper and painted the walls bright pink instead.
Over the years, those walls have had graphic designs and murals added, along with plenty of brightly coloured wall art.
In the girls’ bedroom, for example, stripes of pink, purple, green, and blue go up the wall and across the ceiling, while the living room has a rainbow prism section and a pastel green, pink, and lilac design on the walls.

Next, the mum tackled the floors, hand-painting the kitchen floor in an eighties print.
All the furnishings – many of which Rachael has painted to match her psychedelic colour palette – add to the spectacular finished look.

‘There’s not a room in my house without a bit of a neon bang and I’m always planning how to bring more of it into my decor,’ Rachael wrote on Instagram. ‘Pink makes me feel happy, it lifts the spirit.

‘I have to constantly change up my decor so I don’t get bored and frustrated with my new choices.
‘It does mean my favourite place to go is the paint shop.’
As well as giving the family a dream home, the decoration work has earned Rachael over 45,000 followers on Instagram.

In 2019 she started an art print business, and has been inundated with commissions, with her amazing house providing the perfect advert for her work.
‘I’m a very passionate and optimistic person, I like to find the positives in life wherever possible,’ Rachael said.
‘If I’m creating while listening to music, I am at my happiest. It’s in that situation I am able to fall into my zone and that’s where magical things happen.
‘Some of my murals and big projects have taken days to complete, but once I get started, I just can’t stop.’
