Which board is best for your family? (Picture: Getty)
Looking through the different hotel options and their offerings, you may have spotted that some describe themselves as ‘half board’ while others say they’re ‘full board’.
But which option is right for you and your family?
Here’s all you need to know about the different services.
What is half board?
Half board hotels offer their guests two meals in addition to their accommodation.
These two meals are usually breakfast and dinner. However, some establishments are more flexible and give their visitors the chance to select lunch instead.

Travellers who know they will be leaving the hotel during the day to visit attractions might prefer half board hotels.
This would be a great pick for city breaks and work trips.
What is full board?
As the name may suggest, full board hotels include three meals in addition to accommodation: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
If your hotel has multiple restaurants, the full board might not extend to all of them. So, make sure to check which eateries your booking covers.
If you would like to stay and relax at your hotel all day, this might be the more suitable option for your trip.
For instance, if you’re looking to book a spa break or beach holiday, picking a full board option might make your trip even more hassle-free.
How is full board different from all-inclusive?
Unlike full board, all-inclusive hotel deals include anything and everything you eat and drink throughout the day.
In other words, there are no limits to how many meals or drinks you can have, and which hotel restaurants you can try.
Holidayers should still check if their all-inclusive hotel booking excludes anything like the mini bar in their room or spa services.
