What is the latest on Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper?
On January 7, 2021 Kate returned to GMB and revealed her kids saw their sick dad Derek for the first time since March 2020 over Christmas.
The presenter said there was a “lovely moment” when her daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, were given the chance to see their beloved dad.
He still remains in intensive care and is now the country’s longest-fighting Covid-19 patient.
Derek has also lost eight stone and Kate admitted her sadness at seeing how much he has changed.
In October Kate revealed that Derek had uttered his first word – after 214 days in hospital
Kate, 53, told co-host Ben Shephard: “(Christmas) was tough, wasn’t it? For everyone. I knew it was going to be tough but there was a lovely moment where we got to see Derek and the children did for the first time.
“It was also amplified because he has changed so much, but it was a lovely moment that we did have and we did get it, it was very heightened with emotion.”
Kate had been visiting Derek, 53, in hospital up until the third national lockdown was announced, and she added: “Then instantly now, I’m in a position now where I can’t see him.
“We’re into lockdown now so no visits at all and that will be very impactful on a lot of people. It’s tough on lots of people.”
