Wine experts will share their suggestions (Picture: Getty)
If you always struggle choosing wine to team with your dinner, a brand new initiative could elevate your mealtimes.
Tesco has launched a text sommelier service, which gives recommended pairings.
The supermarket has teamed up with waiters and sommeliers from the struggling UK hospitality industry for the project and proceeds will be going to charity.
A team of 20 sommeliers and wine experts simply require a little information about your menu and your wine preferences. Once they’ve received this, they will suggest the perfect accompaniment for your food.
Perhaps you already know your Merlot from your Malbec, but want some additional expertise on how they work alongside food, or maybe you’re totally clueless about vino and eager to brush up on your skills.
The initiative has been brought about by wine writer Helen McGinn and is set to run until April 16 – so there are a few more weeks to try it out.
To get involved, you need to text ‘WINE’ to 82228 any time between midday and 7pm.
You’ll then be asked what’s on the menu and for a rough budget plus your preference of wine colour, region, grape variety, brands and flavours – to ensure the perfect match.
An expert will reply with a pairing within half an hour. The first text message costs your standard rate but any following that are free.
Tesco has vowed to donate £1 for each recommendation made to a charity helping those in the industry and says it hopes to raise £3000 from this new project.
If booze isn’t your thing, there’s a new refreshing beverage that should be on your radar for summer – the coffee tonic, which is made up of espresso and tonic water.
Of course you can add gin to it as well, for a DIY alcoholic cocktail.
