The hack saves a load of faff (Picture:
Garlic is a true hero ingredient. It makes so many things better.
But it has one major flaw: garlic takes so much faff to peel and chop up into teeny-tiny pieces.
So we rejoice at the existence of this hack, which gives us easy access to garlic whenever a recipe calls for it.
Posting in Budget Friendly Meals Australia, a mum called Robyn shared her trick for preparing garlic – and says it saves her a load of time and money.
So, here’s how it works.
Robyn buys loads of cloves of garlic whenever they’re discounted or on special offer. She peels them, then chucks them in a food processor until they are finely minced.
That’s the chopping bit sorted. Now what?
Once the garlic is all sliced and diced, the mum adds some oil then sections into ice trays.

The trays are then stored in bags in the freezer, the idea being that whenever Robyn is cooking, she can pop out one of the garlic cubes whenever a recipe calls for a clove of garlic.
The cubes will stay fresh and good to use for months, so it’s a far less wasteful option than buying a new bulb and only using half the cloves.
Plus, if you bulk buy the garlic when you see the chance for a discount, you’ll save some extra pennies doing this trick – along with all the time you would have spent chopping.
‘I use [garlic] in everything but I don’t have time to freshly mince some every time,’ Robyn wrote. ‘This is just a time saver for those who need it.’
The mum says she does the same thing with ginger, chilli and herbs (with water added), and says they always turn out wonderfully when she removes the cubes from the freezer and adds straight to the pot.
The trick has been a hit in the Facebook group, and we’ll definitely be trying it.
