But some couples didn’t welcome a newborn by the time the Plan was signed into law and have since added a new dependent to the family in 2021.
Families who were expecting a baby when the Plan was signed into law but had not had their child yet won’t be left out, but also shouldn’t expect a check in the very near future.
Instead, parents will have to notify the IRS when they file their 2021 tax returns to report the new dependent to the government.
Parents and guardians have to file a tax return in order to get the check, so if you’d like to get the stimulus payment for your new child and don’t normally file, you’ll need to for the year 2021.
Single filers with incomes of up to $75,000 and joint filers who are married who have combined incomes of up to $150,000 will be eligible to receive the payment for their newborns.
There is no limit to the number of new dependents you can claim for this payment, so parents of multiples could get more after tax season.
Parents also started receiving monthly tax credit checks for their kids under the American Rescue Plan in July.
The IRS began sending out child tax credits payments on July 15 for those who qualified and will continue to do so every month until December.

The total amount sent out to American parents and guardians for their dependents may end up eclipsing the $1,400 stimulus payments previously sent in a third COVID crisis stimulus payment round earlier in 2021.
In a statement, President Joe Biden previously said: “About 90 percent of families with children will get this new tax relief automatically, starting in July.”
“For working families with children, this tax cut sends a clear message: help is here.”
