Is your ‘running away for a new life in the country’ fantasy to do with wine? Do you wish you could match the sommelier in grape knowledge, or learn all about how it goes from vine to glass?
This could be the job of a lifetime for you.
A winery in Sonoma, California, is looking for a new employee, offering an extremely generous pay package of $10,000 (around £7,200) per month.
As a live-in job, you’ll also have your lodgings at Murphy Goode totally paid-for, not to mention the 30 cases of delicious wine you’ll get to taste and drink along the way.
Given the pay and benefits, you might expect that this role is for someone who already knows their way around a vineyard.
However, Murphy Goode is looking for someone they can train up and immerse in the industry, with the main prerequisite being a passion for wine and an enthusiastic attitude.
The job description states that the selected candidate should ‘take life one sip at a time’ and ‘Answers, “yes, please” when someone asks you “red or white”.’
The first 90 days of the role will involve shadowing expert Dave Ready Jr. and exploring all aspects of harvest. From there, the day-to-day parts of the role will be shaped based on your own passions and areas of expertise.
Healdsburg in Sonoma, where you’d be based, has been continuously awarded one of the top 10 small towns in America and is home to three of the top wineries in the United States.
Those who apply need to be over 21 (given that’s the legal drinking age across the pond) and either be a US citizen or have the right to work in the United States.
Applications are in video format, and Murphy Goode is looking for someone to show them some humour and creativity – stand out as much as you can.
They close on June 30 this year, so get your best glasses out and start practicing your wine jokes.
