Fans of the BBC drama were shocked to learn that Lady C is connected to the family
Ian was the 11th Duke Of Argyll, inheriting the dukedom from his first cousin once removed, Niall Diarmid Campbell, in 1949.
He had been married twice before he and Margaret tied the knot.
And fans of the show were stunned to learn that the outspoken and controversial 72-year-old was connected to the family.
Alongside an open-mouthed emoji, one viewer tweeted: “Just discovered that Margaret’s younger stepson was Lord Colin Campbell who very briefly married Georgie Ziadie – aka Lady Colin Campbell.
Someone else said: “Just reading up on tonight’s A Very British Scandal and found out that the Duke’s younger song went on to marry Lady Colin Campbell.”
A third penned: “The Duke’s younger son ended up with none other than Lady C – you really couldn’t make it up.”
After the show’s first episode aired, viewers were also quick to point out a major blunder.
The Duke’s home is in Inveraray in Scotland, but the way the cast pronounce the town and the castle irked some watching at home.
“That’s a weird pronunciation of Inveraray,” one fan fumed.
While another added: “It’s Inveraray Castle. Not Inverara! Great cast and watch though.”
The finale of A Very British Scandal will be shown on Tuesday, December 28, on BBC One.
